I've been practicing patent law since 2008, first as a registered patent agent while in law school and then as a registered patent attorney.  My firm is focused on applying my uncommon in-house and law firm experience to build and develop forward thinking and best in class patent portfolios and intellectual property value propositions.  I pride myself on my background of patent drafting and prosecution, of being on both sides of patent portfolio due diligence and monetization, and of working with both engineers and executives to ensure the right intellectual property is captured in the best way for the company.

In addition to my law firm I serve on the Board of Directors of Create Appalachia, I teach intellectual property law as faculty at East Tennessee State University, and I am an advisor to various Silicon Valley and Johnson City startups.

Originally from Austin, I graduated from Georgia Tech with a BS in Industrial and Systems Engineering and subsequently attended Univ. of Texas School of Law, graduating in 2009. I then worked for just over three years at a boutique intellectual property law firm in Austin where my primary focus was on patent prosecution.  After substantial work as outside counsel for a client in Silicon Valley, I was hired as in-house intellectual property counsel by the company founder, an inventor with over 200 US patents and former Texas Instruments patent licensing committee member.

As sole in-house IP counsel at a $250M venture capital funded solar photovoltaic startup, I developed and established a high value worldwide in-house IP portfolio of more than 300 issued and pending published utility and design patent applications on budget.
